Comment: comparative breeding ecology of Cooper's hawks in urban vs. exurban areas of southeastern Arizona
Article Abstract:
It is possible to challenge the view that urban Tucson, AZ, acts as an ecological trap for nesting Cooper's hawks. This research failed to account for probable mortality in the Exurban Study Area for around 20 days at late nestling and early fledgling stages.

Nesting biology of urban Cooper's hawks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Article Abstract:
A breeding Cooper's hawk population in the urban Milwaukee area, Wisconsin, U.S., is studied over a 12-year period and their reproductive success, age structure, nest-site occupancy and natal dispersal are documented. The study has shown that these nesting areas were not marginal or inferior habitats and that urban Cooper's hawks were not a sink population.

Reexamination of cowbird parasitism and edge effects in Wisconsin forests
Article Abstract:
Brown-headed cowbirds appear to prey more on the nests of forest-interior song birds which nest close to the forest edge. A new investigation studies how often the nests of Acadian flycatchers are parasitized by brown-headed cowbirds, with reference to the distance of the nest from non-forest openings. The study concludes that there is no correlation between the distance of nests from forest edges and parasitism by cowbirds. It is suggested that the prevalence of parasitism could be linked to regional and species-specific factors.
