Company accused over lab data 'theft'
Article Abstract:
Agouron Pharmaceuticals inc of La Jolla, a small biotechnology company, has been accused of using data stolen from the University of California chemistry laboratory. The data, on the crystallization of an enzyme, was used in a published article and in research. The lawsuit was filed by Huguette Pelletier, currently assistant professor of biochemistry at Baylor College of Medicine, against Jay F Davies II and his wife, Michele A. McTigue, both Agouron researchers.

Cashing in on the rich coast
Article Abstract:
The National Biodiversity Institute (INBio) in Costa Rica has a huge collection of Costa Rican insects and it has set itself up as a training ground for integrating traditional conservation values with modern high-tech methods. The future of the INBio is uncertain due to its scanty returns and it now dependent on the new bioprospecting plan, funded by the US, in which scientists would canvas the country for new drug candidates.
