Comparison of two double-observer point-count approaches for estimating breeding bird abundance
Article Abstract:
The detection probabilities and associated levels of precision generated by both double-observer approaches, the dependent observer and independent observer, were compared to ascertain which technique generates data that are more accurate and more feasible to apply in the field. The dependent-observer approach resulted in higher observer specific and joint detection probabilities and it is suggested that this method be used when surveying birds using point counts.

Staging, migration, and winter distribution of Canada and cackling geese staging in interior Alaska
Article Abstract:
A study of the breeding stock composition, migration, and winter distribution of Canada geese(Branta canadensis) and cackling (B. hutchinsii) geese is performed in interior Alaska. The observations show that fall staging white-cheeked geese in Fairbanks were mainly 1 breeding stock of white-cheeked geese while fall and spring staging white-cheeked geese in Delta Junction include minimum 2 stocks of white-cheeked geese.

Black Brant harvest, density dependence, and survival: A record of population dynamics
Article Abstract:
The relationship between harvest and annual survival and the role of harvest in the long-term decline in brant are evaluated. The analysis has shown that low recruitment rates have resulted in decline in brant population despite high survival rates.
