Conservation hotline: To the rescue

Article Abstract:

Rescue of an elephant by the Gabonese Council for National Parks and the Wildlife Department with the help of Smithsonian Institute (SI) from a cable snare reported by Shell Oil Company employees is described. The conservation community and partners should improve efforts to protect elephants from illegal hunting is suggested.

Article Abstract:

Stephen Blake was in Loango national park to work on a Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) forest elephant study, with a team of other four people. The plan was to immobilize six forest elephants, and attach Global Positioning System (GPS) collars around their necks to track their movements in and over the national park.
