Contribution of anthropogenic and natural sources to atmospheric methane variability
Article Abstract:
The processes that controlled variations in methane emissions between 1984 and 2003 are quantified using an inversion model of atmospheric transport and chemistry. Results reveal that wetland emissions dominate the inter-annual variability of methane sources, whereas fire emissions play a smaller role, except during the 1997-1998 El Nino event.

Long-term sensitivity of soil carbon turnover to warming
Article Abstract:
A simple three-pool model that partitions soil organic carbon (SOC) into components with different intrinsic turnover rates is presented. It is found that the initially increased carbon dioxide efflux returns to pre-warming rates within one to three years, and apparent carbon pool turnover times are sensitive to temperature.

Recent patterns and mechanisms of carbon exchange by terrestrial ecosystems
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the volumes of carbon dioxide which are absorbed from the atmosphere by oceanic and terrestrial ecosystems. The evolution of the carbon sink in tropical and extratropical areas is discussed.
