A tireless crusade: Archer Daniels Midland Company turns high-sulfur coal, tires into economical fuels
Article Abstract:
Cogeneration tire burning is employed by the Archer Daniels Midland Company in generating steam and electric power in its plant located at Decatur, Illinois. Through a process of combustion and sulfur dioxide capture, energy released from steam is utilized at on-site grain processing facilities, while clean air requirements are met. Locally available high-sulfur coal and shredded tires are converted into useful energy, thus reducing problems concerning their disposal.
