Correlates versus predictors of courtship success: courtship song in Drosophila silvestris and D. heteroneura
Article Abstract:
The courtships of the picture-winged flies Drosophila silvestris and D. heteroneura are accompanied by wing vibration, with successful courtships including extended wing vibration times. An experiment designed to discover whether the sounds produced by wing vibration are necessary for mating success is presented. The results show that males with clipped wings are equally as successful as those with unclipped wings. Details of the study are presented.

The response of Drosophila parabipectinata to simulated courtship songs
Article Abstract:
A study exploring the response of Drosophila parabipectinata to simulated courtship songs was conducted. Results indicate that wings are an important determinant of success for male flies in attraction of females. Also, females respond to simulated courtship songs and two male songs, one at 84 dB played for five minutes and one at 84 dB played for a short period, when playedafter another enhanced the probability of female receptivity.

Courtship and remating in field populations of Drosophila
Article Abstract:
A study that explored the courtship and remating behavior of two types of fruit flies was conducted. Results indicate that rejection behaviors by females including ovipositor extrusion and decamping usually worked. Results also indicate that efficiency in sperm use improves if the supply of sperm in storage is low. Therefore, the proportion of receptive females in the wild is low.
