Coupling strength of charge carriers to spin fluctuations in high-temperature superconductors
Article Abstract:
There is still uncertainty surrounding the origin of the new peak that emerges out of, or is additional to, the spin excitation background in the superconducting state. This peak could result from a readjustment in the spin excitation spectrum because of the onset of superconductivity. It could also be a resonance in the SO(5) unification of magnetism and superconductivity. It has been established that coupling a low temperatures to the observed superconducting-state spin-resonance peak is a general phenomenon in both YBCO and Bi2212. Spin excitations are therefore seen in an appropriately chosen second derivative of the superconducting state optical conductivity.

Origin of high critical currents in YBa2Cu3O7-delta superconducting thin films
Article Abstract:
It is possible to map the linear defect structure of a YBa2Cu3O7-delta superconducting thin film quantitatively. There is a connection between the as-grown dislocation density and the strong pinning behaviour of the superconducting current density in these films. There is clear evidence that the high current densities in YBa2Cu3O7-delta thin films are caused by strong vortex pinning by natural linear defects. This indicates that it could be possible to investigate vortex matter in films with a tailored non-random distribution of linear strong pinning defects.
