Cytosolic pH regulates root water transport during anoxic stress through gating of aquaporins
Article Abstract:
A molecular mechanism for aquaporin, water channel protein of the plasma membrane intrinsic protein (PIP) subgroup, gating by cytoslic pH is described. The mechanism may provide basis for inhibition of water permeability (hydraualic conductivity) of roots (Lp r) during flooding of soils.

Water gate
Article Abstract:
The molecular basis of reduced root permeability in case of flooding is described. It is suggested that changes in the pH inside root cells regulate the conformation of water-channel protein, which affect root permeability.
