DNA structure-dependent requirements for yeast RAD genes in gene conversion
Article Abstract:
Physical monitoring of DNA to study the mating-type (MAT) switching in Saccharomyces cerevisiae reveals that the recombination in chromatin occurs between DNA molecules. The process of recombination depends on the structure of the chromatin. The physical monitoring reveals that the MAT switching is completely blocked during the recombination when DNA repair genes such as RAD51 are deleted in the strains subjected to recombination.

DNA-bend modulation in a repressor-to-activator switching mechanism
Article Abstract:
The repression and activation during transcriptional regulation is mediated by the transcription factor MerR. The mediation occurs through stereospecific modulation of the DNA structure. The MerR repressor form appears to bind the promoter elements of the bacterial mercury-detoxification genes. The study of the repression and activation provides more information on the activator proteins which distort the DNA.

Incorporation of subgenomic amounts of DNA as compensation for mutational load in a gynogenetic fish
Article Abstract:
The disadvantages of asexuality, prevalent in several fishes, are rectified in the Amazon Molly fish Poecilia formosa. The rectification involves the microchromosome-effected induction of subgenomic quantities of DNA obtained from bisexual host species. The primary disadvantage of asexuality is Muller's ratchet, which obstructs the production of offsprings when there is no recombination.
