David John Klingener: 1937-1995
Article Abstract:
David John Klingener, Swedish-American comparative anatomist and mammalogist, died on July 6, 1995 at age 57 due to complications from a heart condition. He has been a zoology professor since 1964 at the University of Massachusetts which honored him with the Distinguished Teaching Award in 1974. He has published papers on the comparative myology of dipodoid rodents and on facial muscles and dental morphology. In addition, he was a member of The American Society of Mammalogists and frequently assisted in Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Barbara Lawrence Schevill: 1909-1997
Article Abstract:
Barbara Lawrence Schevill, born in Boston, MA, in 1909, began her career as a volunteer at the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology after graduating in 1931. Together with her husband, William Schevill, she was responsible for a number of contributions in the field of zooarchaeology, cetacean morphology and other mammalogical studies. The Lawrence award, awarded every year by the Society of Ethnobiology for the year's best paper, was initiated in 1987 in celebration of her achievements.

John H. Calaby: 1922-1998
Article Abstract:
John Henry Calaby, one of Australia's greatest naturalists, passed away on Sep 19, 1998, after a long battle with emphysema, diabetes and anemia. Calaby, born on Oct 19, 1922, in Creswick, Victoria, was a Life Member of the American Society of Mammalogists and is credited by having 29 species of animals named after him. Calaby is the recipient of a number of awards from the scientific community, including the Troughton Medal from the Australian Mammal Society.
