Design principles of a bacterial signaling network
Article Abstract:
Errors in signal transduction can lead to wrong development and behavioural decisions, and result in growth impairment or, in multicellular organisms, cancer. Therefore, one should have a strong selective pressure towards networks showing intrinsic robustness against the various sources of inter- and intracellular perturbations, such as fluctuations in protein concentration.

Escherichia coli swim on the right-hand side
Article Abstract:
The cells in poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) microchannels swimming preferentially along the right wall of the microchannel are shown. It is shown that when cells are confined between two interfaces, one an agar surface and second PDMS surface, they swim closer to the agar surface than to the PDMS surface, leading t the preferential movement on the right of the microchannel.

Functional interactions between receptors in bacterial chemotaxis
Article Abstract:
A model system, which is used for signal transduction, is bacterial chemotaxis. It is examined that assemblies of bacterial chemoreceptors work in a highly cooperative manner.
