Development of spatial memory in occlusion-experienced domestic chicks
Article Abstract:
A series of experiments were conducted to investigate the role of this voluntary 'out-of-sight' behaviour on the development of spatial memory in young chicks. The findings suggest that active experience of occlusion around the eleventh day improved egocentric orientation towards an out-of-sight goal, supporting the hypothesis that enrichment-induced behavioural changes are dependent on the interaction with objects.

Suckling behavior in domestic foals and the development of abnormal oral behavior
Article Abstract:
The behavior of domestic foals and their association with foal gender, mare rank and development of abnormal oral behavior are investigated. The findings indicate that there is no difference in the behavior of male and female foals, but mare rank affected patterns of social interaction and suckling behavior, with foals of subordinate mares involved in more affiliative interactions.

Experience-induced modulation of the use of spatial information in the domestic chick
Article Abstract:
The manner in which experience of opaque or transparent screens modulates the use of spatial cues by domestic chicks is examined. The results suggest that chicks using the left eye are less easily disrupted by conflicting spatial cues than chicks using the right eye and that experience of visual barriers from 10-12 days of age improves the chick's ability to attend to distal cues.
