Long-term spatial memory in four seed-caching corvid species
Article Abstract:
The duration of food cache recovery was analyzed in Clark's nutcrackers, pinyon jays, scrub-jays and Mexican jays. Analysis of food cache recovery performance in relation to memory in Clark's nutcrackers and pinyon jays indicated the presence of varied spatial memory due to difference in the processing of and utilization of spatial information. However, the variations in long-term spatial memory performance between Clark's nutcrackers and pinyon jays are inconclusive.

Pinyon jays use transitive inference to predict social dominance
Article Abstract:
Sophisticated inferences are drawn about highly social pinyon jays with their own dominance status relative to that of strangers that they have observed interacting with known individuals. These results depict that animals use transitive inference in social settings and imply that such cognitive capabilities are widespread among social species.

Social complexity and transitive inference in corvids
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to test whether the social complexity hypothesis asserts of animals, living in large social groups, should display enhance cognitive abilities along predictable dimensions. The results from this study provide a clear demonstration of the association between social complexity and cognition in animals.
