Displaced by radiation
Article Abstract:
A technique called nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was tested on the mineral zircon that displayed each [alpha]-decay event displacing significantly more atoms than simulations had predicted. [alpha]-Decays lead to slow accumulation of damage domains and eventually a complete loss of periodic structure in a solid crystal thus causing the material in the physical and chemical properties to change.

Experimental implementation of heat-bath algorithmic cooling using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance
Article Abstract:
The experimental realization of multi-step cooling of a quantum system through heat-bath algorithmic cooling is reported. The counter-intuitive properties of quantum mechanics have the potential to revolutionize information processing by enabling the development of efficient algorithms with no known classical counterparts.

A bit chilly
Article Abstract:
A quantum computer needs a constant supply of quantum bits, or qubits, in a known state. For performing this, a nuclear magnetic resonance experiment is carried out that cools qubits by pumping entropy into a heat bath.
