Distorting sex ratios
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to identify a unique protein kinase encoded by the t-haplotype, a naturally occurring variant of chromosome 17. This kinase has an impact on signal-transduction cascade that is believed to control the speed and directionality of sperm as they travel up the female reproductive tract. This research is particularly significant for the identification of the cis-acting element, Tcr. The location of Tcr had previously been limited to a 155-kilobase region of the t-haplotype. Within this region, a protein kinase gene spanning 80 kilobases has been found. The Tcr kinase gene is a fusion of two kinases.

Cripto is required for correct orientation of the anterior-posterior axis in the mouse embryo
Article Abstract:
Cripto, a member of the EGF-CFC gene family, encoded secreted proteins containing a divergent epidermal growth factor (EGF). Expression of Cripto can be observed in the epiblast of embryos. It is demonstrated that Cripto is needed for early embryogenesis in the mouse. The results support a recent model explaining the formation of the anterior-posterior axis in the mouse embryo. This confirms the essential role of the EGC-CFC gene family in mammalian development.

Finger-length ratios and sexual orientation
Article Abstract:
The androgen-sensitive pattern of finger lengths was examined and it is suggested that prenatal androgens influence adult human sexual orientation in both sexes.
