Do all freshwater eels migrate?
Article Abstract:
The ratio of strontium (Sr) and calcium (Ca) in the otoliths of eels has been used to study the proportion of time spent in freshwater and ocean habitats. The technique has also been used to show that Atlantic and Pacific eels from the ocean have spent all their life there and not migrated into fresh water. This suggests that sea populations contribute mainly to future recruitment, and that freshwater eels may not be catadromous.

A new radiocarbon evolution and the dispersal of modern humans in Eurasia
Article Abstract:
Radiocarbon dating has been fundamental to the study of human cultural and biological development over the past 50,000 years. Two methodology developments in radiocarbon dating show that the speed of colonization of Eurasia by modern humans was more rapid than previously believed, and that their period of coexistence with the preceding Neanderthal was shorter.

Spawning of eels near a seamount
Article Abstract:
The Japanese eel spawns near seamounts west of the Mariana Islands, close to the time of the new moon which is revealed on the basis of data collected on the eel larvae leptocephali since the 1940s and analysis of their hatching dates. The location is verified after collection and analysis of the newly hatched pre-leptocephali.
