The role of evolution in the emergence of infectious diseases
Article Abstract:
An increase in Ro, the average number of secondary infections arising from one infected individual in a completely susceptible population, even when insufficient to generate an epidemic, increases the number of subsequently infected individuals. As a consequence of this, the probability of pathdogen evolution to Ro> 1 and subsequent disease emergence can increase markedly.

Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to demonstrate that specialized cells from the 'adaptive' immune system orchestrate the innate inflammation, which promotes tumor progression. The studies revealed that chronic inflammation predisposes individuals to certain cancers, and conversely that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents protect against several tumors.
