Do female red-winged blackbirds benefit genetically from seeking extra-pair copulations?
Article Abstract:
The quest of female red-winged black birds (Agelaius phoeniceus) for extra-pair copulations was investigated. Copulated females improved their reproductive success by hatching significant number of eggs and fledging a significant proportion of young. Also, a low population of nestlings that tend to starve in broods was observed. Results showed that selection pressure in female regarding extra-pair copulation is strong with the knowledge of maintaining extra-pair copulations as an important aspect of female reproductive success.

Human sperm competition: Testis size, sperm production and rates of extrapair copulations
Article Abstract:
The claim that sperm competition is an important selection pressure operating in human populations is examined. Results reveal no support for the controversial claim that the within-population frequency distribution of testis size reflects a balanced polymorphism between men who specialize in sperm competition through extrapair copulations (EPCs) and men who are monogamous.
