Eagle day at Sand Lake
Article Abstract:
The sixth annual Eagle Day Open House celebrations at Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge, South Dakota, in March, 1996, were marked by presentations on bald eagles and giant Canada geese. The eagle day coincides with the time for waterfowl and eagle migrations, and offers unique opportunities to the birdwatchers. About 800 visitors, as compared to only 30 in 1991, participated in the refuge. The refuge uses guided tours, presentations with live birds, exhibitions and displays, and poster making contest for children to generate public interest.

Endocrine disrupters and bald eagles: a response
Article Abstract:
The suggestion that many wildlife species are threatened by hidden environmental factors lacks credibility. It has long been recognized that environmental contamination by persistent biocides continues to affect some sensitive populations, such as bald eagles, but it is difficult to separate the remnant 'old' effects from the so-called 'new' effects, which are said to include lower nesting productivity in bald eagles and the feminization of male birds.

Bald eagle numbers continue to rise
Article Abstract:
The bald eagle or Haliaeetus leucocephalus is continuing to exhibit signs of improvement in productivity. Survey results obtained by the Fish and Wildlife Service revealed that nesting territories for the 1990 nesting season numbered at 3,014, compared to only 1, 188 during the early 1980's. Surveys of bald eagles' territories are performed and financed at the Federal and State levels by several agencies and individuals.
