A working wilderness
Article Abstract:
The Malpai Borderlands is a biologically rich area along the North American border, with 100 families who have formed the Malpai Borderlands Group to safeguard the area's biodiversity. On the forefront of the efforts is the Magoffins family, who earned praise for keeping alive two populations of the endangered Chiricahua leopard frogs during the drought of 1994. The Group, with assistance from scientists and institutions, has successfully kept the region's continuity and biodiversity intact. Their success emphasizes private sector's capability to protect the environment.
