Effects of a population bottleneck on whooping crane mitochondrial DNA variation
Article Abstract:
Research presented concerns the genetic consequences of a human-caused population bottleneck on whooping cranes, given that the population dipped to a low of 14 birds in 1938. Genetic analysis of mitochondrial DNA from cranes before, during, and after the bottleneck attempts to add to the research on preserving genetic diversity among small populations.
