Microhabitat selection by Texas horned lizards in southern Texas
Article Abstract:
Research shows that Phrynosoma cornutum, also known as Texas horned lizards or horned toads, prefer a mosaic habitat consisting of woody vegetation, herbaceous vegetation and bare ground in close proximity. Studies were conducted on five separate sites, each of which typified a different grazing and burning land management treatment.

Habitat selection by the Texas tortoise in a managed thornscrub ecosystem
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that Texas tortoise populations will not react negatively to continuing brush encroachment induced by grazing activities. The brush encroachment is increasing woody canopy cover, but studies on 36 tortoises from 1994 to 1996 show that, while extreme canopy cover was avoided in tortoise habitat selection choices, moderate canopy cover was tolerated.

Effects of dietary energy and protein restriction on nutritional indices of female white-tailed deer
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted to examine the effects of dietary energy and protein restriction on the nutritional condition of female adult white-tailed deer. Nutritional status was determined from the serum, ruminal, fecal and carcass indices of sacrificed deer. Results showed varying indices for dietary protein, dietary energy and protein-energy interactions. It is suggested that multiple indices be used to effectively assess herd condition and habitat quality in deer.
