Electronic motion in DNA
Article Abstract:
DNA has to be stable, robust and repairable to undertake its task of information storage and propagation. There have been reports on electron transfer in DNA, and Meggers and colleagues have revealed some regularities in the step-wise motion of electron holes in the structure of DNA. The used a photochemical method to induce an electron hole on guanine (G) base within DNA, and were able to measure the probabilities and relative rates of hole transfer along the strand.

Pushing electrons around. Molecular electronics
Article Abstract:
Vilan and colleagues have shown that molecular layers control the electrical behavior of a classical metal-semiconductor. They modified a tunnel diode by adsorbing tartaric acid molecules onto the semiconductor crystal (gallium arsenide, GaAs). They demonstrate the control through changes in the polarity of the group linked to the molecular layer, from dipoles.

Charged with manipulation
Article Abstract:
The way to control the onset of conduction through a molecular junction is demonstrated by using the charge state of an atom on the surface of a silicon electrode. It is found that localized charges profoundly affect charge transport in single-molecule structures on silicon surfaces at room temperature.
