Endocrine disruption: hidden threats to wildlife
Article Abstract:
Growing evidence of endocrine disruption in wild animals makes it necessary to establish more precise measures of wildlife health. Mere observation of an adult animal with apparently healthy young is not enough to assess population health. Instead, the life of the offspring must also be studied to determine whether they are able to reproduce and contribute to the viability of the species. Many pesticides, commercial products and industrial chemicals released into the environment are endocrine disrupters and have the potential to endanger wildlife health.
