From stress to cognition
Article Abstract:
Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), the neuropeptide released in response to stress, controls cognitive behavior in humans. The low level of CRF in Alzheimer's disease may be due to decreased CRF production, loss of CRF neurons or excess of CRF breakdown. The possible involvement of CRFs in cognition can lead to the development of therapeutic agents that can dissociate CRF. Another member of the CRF family has been discovered in mammals opening up possibilities for the existence of more CRFs and more complex roles for CRFs.

The neurobiology of cognition
Article Abstract:
Cognition and emotion cannot be duplicated in even the most sophisticated of computers, although they occur naturally from the electrical activity of systems of neurons in the brain. Investigators need to develop new experimental techniques to study functional interactions between neurons, and it is likely that there will be substantial progress in understanding how decisions are formed in the brain over the next decade.

Collective decisions and cognition in bees
Article Abstract:
Swarms of honeybees, Apis mellifera, choose nest sites from those discovered and reported by their scouts. A study was undertaken to test whether scouts that dance for one site are selective in dance following. The collective decision of a swarm appears to be based on limited cognitive tasks and information feedback, rather than on complex cognitive comparison. The process is formed by natural selection.
