Eph receptors and ephrins restrict cell intermingling and communication
Article Abstract:
There are stow structural classes of ephrins with differing binding specificities. Ephrin-A ligands bind to the EphA class of receptors while ephrin-B proteins bind to EphB receptors. A study undertook to determine whether complementary expression of Eph receptors and ephrins inhibits cell intermingling, and whether this needs bidirectional signalling. It was found that bidirectional signalling inhibits intermingling of adjacent cell populations.

Function of the Eph-related kinase rtk1 in patterning of the zebrafish forebrain
Article Abstract:
A dominant-negative approach in the zebrafish embryo interferes with the function of Rtk1 which is an Eph-related receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK). The RTK is expressed in developing diencephalon. The eye field expands into diencephalic territory due to expression of a truncated receptor. The loss of diencephalic structures also occurs. The observations of a study indicate that Rtk1 affects the patterning of the developing forebrain.

In vivo cell sorting in complementary segmental domains mediated by Eph receptors and ephrins
Article Abstract:
Blocking experiments indicate that Eph-receptor tyrosine kinases may be needed for segmental cell restriction. Eph receptors may mediate cell repulsion at boundaries. Mosaic activation of Eph receptors results in sorting of cells to boundaries in odd-numbers, while mosaic activation of ephrins leads to even-numbered sorting to boundaries.
