Evaluating completeness of species lists for conservation and macroecology: A case study of Mexican land birds
Article Abstract:
Species assemblages were compared in diverse habitats of Mexico and it was found that seven families and two genera of land birds are omnipresent in mainland Mexico and the most depauperate assemblages known contain 35 species from 21 families. More tests for omnipresent taxa and for a minimum number of species and families can be used in combination with other existing criteria, such as species-richness functions to evaluate the completeness of species lists.

Bat- and bird-generated seed rains at isolated trees in pastures in a tropical rainforest
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that both bats and birds play important roles in seed dispersal, particularly in pasture regions. Since they disperse seeds of primary and pioneer species such as herbs, shrubs and trees, bats and birds may make significant contributions to woody vegetation recovery in disturbed regions of tropical forests.

Bat diversity and abundance as indicators of disturbance in neotropical rainforests
Article Abstract:
Studies on bat species near Chiapas, Mexico, show that bat species diversity, richness and numbers of rare bat species are positively correlated with vegetation scores, making them a reliable indicator species. Other advantages include easy sampling, quick results and low costs.
