Variation and consistency of female preferences for simulated courtship songs in Drosophila virilis
Article Abstract:
Drosophila females can exercise choice and signal readiness for mating at all stages in courtship. The females of Drosophila virilis respond to songs, and this means that they can be studied through song simulation. Females were played songs that had modified impulses of sound, as well as species-specific song. Females were more likely to respond to the song that was species-specific. Females were more likely to respond to a song in a second trial if they had previously responded to this song.

Courtship song rhythms in Drosophila yakuba
Article Abstract:
The courtship songs of males from several Drosophila yakuba strains were studied. It is confirmed that the species does not generate a hum song, but the song pulses were found to be of two distinctive types, 'clack' and 'thud'. It is expected that the cycling thud song could enhance female mating in a period-specific way, and that thud and clack song enhance female mating in different ways.

Behavioural isolation between two closely related Hawaiian Drosophila species: the role of courtship
Article Abstract:
Behavioral isolation in similar Drosphila species appears to be linked to decisions relating whether they should court, and not to details of the species' courtship.
