Evaporation losing its strength
Article Abstract:
A study of the process of evaporation using pan evaporimeters reveals that the phenomenon of evaporation has decreased since 1995 in some areas of United States and Russia. This suggests that a major component of the hydrological cycle, the terrestrial evaporation process has been decreasing over the decades. This specifically explains increases in runoff in Europe and Russia over the past decade. The result is found to be in accordance with the decrease in maximum summer temperatures and decrease in growing-season degree days in these areas.

Harvesting a crop of gold in plants
Article Abstract:
Scientists have been intrigued by the possibility of turning base metals into gold, and the discovery of significant gold uptake by plants is of interest, although gold levels in plants are usually very low. However hyperaccumulator plants have higher concentrations and can be used in phytoremediation. Plants have been induced to accumulate gold from ores, through the treatment of substrate with ammonium thiocyanate.
