Expanding the participation of academic scientists in the HCP planning process
Article Abstract:
Habitat conservation plans (HCPs) are being used to minimize conflicts between endangered species and public or private economic development projects. However, some doubt the scientific validity of HCPs since these were not subjected to any academic peer review. To promote HCPs scientifically, independent academic scientists must be asked to conduct scientific peer reviews throughout the HCP process. An appropriate system must be in place to ensure that any suggestions made by review panels will be incorporated into HCPs.

Idaho's nongame, endangered and watchable wildlife program
Article Abstract:
The prime concerns of the Nongame, Endangered and Watchable Wildlife Program in Idaho are to conserve wildlife, create awareness among people and ensure their support. It aims to involve the public in their cause, by emphasizing wildlife viewing. An ecological approach should be adopted in the conservation of wildlife, since it is impossible to cater to the requirement of every endangered species to conserve them.
