Will there ever be peace in Europe?
Article Abstract:
The fighting in the former Yugoslavia represents the continuation of the tribal conflict that has plagued Europe since Charlemagne. Europe must act decisively if it is to squelch the renewal of tribal hatreds, particularly by opposing the expulsion of ethnically undesirable people by both Serbs and Croats. The short-term solution is for Europe to broker a peace through applying pressure in the form of sanctions. The long-term solution is to promote economic development as a means of ending the dependence on agriculture which tends to keep ethnic rivalries alive.

Eradication of rabies in Europe
Article Abstract:
Rabies was eradicated from regions of Switzerland and France where it had been prevalent, through the oral vaccination of foxes. Concern that the vaccine might pose a risk to animals led to the development of an avirulent strain using monoclonal antibodies. The new strain proved as effective as its parent, and posed no risks to rodents used to test it. A second new strain is currently being tested, one which has two mutations where the first had only one and so is doubly avirulent.
