Light travels at a speed of 300 million meters per second in a vacuum but the speed can be slowed down to cycling speed by using the right medium. Potential applications from quantum computing to telecommunications have made slow light research a fast-moving topic.

The atmospheric stability for a Jupiter-like planet orbiting a solar-type star displays a sharp collapse between 0.14 and 0.16 AU.
