Experience-dependent representation of visual categories in parietal cortex
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that neurons in the lateral intraparietal (LIP), an area known to be centrally involved in visuo-spatial attention, motor planning and decision making, roubustly reflect the category of motion direction as a result of learning is presented. Results indicate that LIP might be an important nexus for the transformation of visual direction selectivity to more abstract representations that encode the behavioral relevance of stimuli.

Neuronal correlates of inferred motion in primate posterior parietal cortex
Article Abstract:
Studies of the response of posterior parietal cortex neurons of monkeys to a disappearing visual stimulus show that neurons are active during visual guidance tasks even after the disappearance of the visual target, providing a generalized representation of target motion. When the visual stimulus is temporarily absent, nearly half the neurons exhibit more activity in trials with moving, rather than stationary, stimulus.

An awakening
Article Abstract:
Neuroscientists and engineers are developing ways to help patients in a minimally conscious state and also overcome paralysis and stroke. They have showed that stimulation electrodes can improve the patients in a minimally conscious state due to irreparable damage to the cerebral cortex.
