An agency undermined by silence
Article Abstract:
The current budget conflict between the White House and Congress has thrown the operations of the National Science Foundation (NSF) into chaos. Unlike the Dept. of Energy, the National Institutes of Health and other science agencies, the NSF does not appear to have enough clout in Washington to be given funding. Consequently, it still does not have a budget for 1996. NSF Dir. Neal Lane is urging the science and technology community to break their silence and actively lobby the federal government for financial assistance.

... As UK agency cuts staff to prepare for privatization
Article Abstract:
The publication of the Atomic Energy Authority Bill in the UK indicates that the Atomic Energy Authority (AEA) in the UK may soon be privatized. The AEA is the technical division of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. Several organizations affiliated to the AEA feel privatization of AEA will retard researches in nuclear science and may result in the unemployment of several skilled laborers.
