Family tragedy spotlights flu mutations
Article Abstract:
The sequence data finding reveal that a strain of avian flu that spread through a family in Indonesia, was accumulating mutations as it spread from person to person, and reiterates the need for sequence data to be made more widely available if the virus is to be better understood. Researchers state that they are not able to get a clear picture about the mutated virus as continued withholding of genetic data is hampering the study of the virus.

Yes, but will it jump
Article Abstract:
A study shows that there are 16H subtypes of flu, out of which H1, H2 and H3 are known to have caused human pandemics, but there is a possibility that another subtype may jump among people, which is, however, not been observed. Experts feel that this cannot be used to predict the chance of H5N1 or any future H5 strain triggering a pandemic, sowing unnecessary confusion.

Indonesia struggles to control bird flu outbreak
Article Abstract:
An expert assesses the situation of outbreaks of bird flu in Indonesia and reveals how likely it is that the virus might evolve into a pandemic strain. He discusses the seriousness of the outbreak, estimation of the infected people, and worst part of the H5N1 strain, its mutation and the worry of scientists.
