Feather mites, pectoral muscle condition, wing length and plumage coloration of passerines
Article Abstract:
The feather mite loads of moulting birds were compared with features of new plumage, in nine species, include wren, dunnock, blue tit and linnet. Birds with more feather mites grew duller plumage and had relatively shorter wings than less infested birds. The shape of their pectoral muscle also indicated lower protein reserves.

Feather mites (Astigmata) avoid moulting wing feathers of passerine birds
Article Abstract:
The distribution of feather mites on moulting passerine birds was investigated using generalized linear mixed models, to determine if distribution relies on the stage of moult of feathers.
