An evaluation is presented of the technique of null hypothesis testing in wildlife and ecological studies. The widespread use of null hypothesis testing is discussed and an alternative method is put forward.

Field trials of line transect methods applied to estimation of desert tortoise abundance
Article Abstract:
Research describing field trials of line transect methods using novice and experienced observers to estimate desert tortoise populations is presented. It is shown that line transect methods are viable for tortoise monitoring provided observers are familiar with the protocols.
