Flight restores fight in crickets
Article Abstract:
It is possible to restore aggressiveness in defeated crickets by activating their motor programme for flying. The behavioural impact on aggression demonstrates the effect of specific motor patterns on the functioning of apparently unconnected command centres. The revival of aggression by flying is the only known example in which activation of a specific motor pattern has an immediate impact on an unconnected subsequent behaviour. This may not be unique, and it may therefore be necessary to revise views on the antidepressant effects of sleep deprivation.

Which parts of the road guide steering?
Article Abstract:
The near as well as the far regions of the road have to be visible for precise driving at moderate and high speeds. The distant regions are required for assessing the road curvature while the near regions are necessary for proper positioning on the road. However, to drive at low speeds a visibility of the near region is sufficient. It is necessary to maintain the position on the road away from the edges while driving along a twisted road besides matching the curvature.

Complex auditory behavior emerges from simple reactive steering
Article Abstract:
The movements of female crickets are measured using a highly sensitive method, showing that when walking and flying each sound pulse of the communication signal releases a rapid steering response. Thus auditory orientation emerges from reactive motor responses to individual sound pulses.
