Flu-vaccine makers toil to boost supply
Article Abstract:
The threat of a bird-flu pandemic is forcing vaccine developers to make tough choices about the types of vaccine to pursue. More than a dozen groups are developing pandemic vaccines, testing a range of strategies to boost potency and production capacity whereas others are developing cell-based systems to grow the virus, rather than the chicken eggs used to increase vaccine yields.

Needle in the haystack: Advances in high throughput screening
Article Abstract:
New systems, reagents, kits and libraries enable the early elimination of poor drug candidates and accelerate the success of the screening process. Improving drug development processes and gaining insights into complex genetic interactions have resulted in high throughput (HT) cloning methods that allow thousands of experiments to be performed routinely by research labs.

New users for old drugs
Article Abstract:
The costly and time-consuming paradigm of drug discovery has led to the identification of new uses for existing drugs. The scientific community should try to create a comprehensive clinical drug library and use it for screening every neglected disease by 2011.
