Fluorescent indicators for Ca2+ based on green fluorescent proteins and calmodulin
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to visualize free Ca2+ dynamics in the cytosol, endoplasmic reticulum and nucleus of single HeLa cells transfected with complementary DNAs encoding chimaeras bearing appropriate localization signals. This has allowed the construction of new fluorescent indicators for Ca2+ which are genetically encoded without cofactors and can be targeted to specific intracellular locations. The targetability of the indicators may eventually make it possible to undertake Ca2+ measurements at previously inaccessible sites.

Activation of the ERK/MAPK pathway by an isoform of rap1 GAP associated with G alpha i
Article Abstract:
Rap1GAPII, a novel isoform of Rap1 GTPase-activating protein, is found to bind specifically to the alpha-subunits of the Gi group of heterotrimeric G-proteins. Rap1GAPII is translocated from the cytosol to the membrane on stimulation of the Gi-coupled m3-muscarinic receptor. The fall in GTP-bound Rap1, activates ERK/MAPK.
