Formation of fold-and-thrust belts on Venus by thick-skinned deformation
Article Abstract:
The horizontal shortening of a laterally heterogeneous lithosphere can explain the long-wavelength topography of the venusian fold-and-thrust belts. A model shows that the process of mountain building in Venus is regulated by deformation within the mechanically strong outer layer of its surface. In this model, the shape and elevation of the venusian plateau is moulded by the isostatic effects which arise due to subsurface compositional and thermal variations. The style of deformation is influenced by rheological structure.

Coming soon - the movie
Article Abstract:
Three studies, projecting life-like photographs of the contractile apparatus operating in muscle, will help in making a movie. Ivan Rayment and his colleagues present three dimensional structure of the chicken, skeletal myosin head, in 'Science' journal. The other two studies reveal three dimensional electron monographs of frozenhydrated F-actin decorated with S1 which provides an atomic model for the actomyosin complex.
