Stability is woven by complex webs
Article Abstract:
Ecological systems are extremely complex and McCann and colleagues have provided a new approach to understanding how complexity affects ecological systems. They show that complexity can stabilize a system, dampening population fluctuations and preventing loss of species. This has been based on 'food-web modules' representing different types of common and complex interactions having direct and indirect effects, incorporating nonlinear terms for per capita growth and consumption rates.

Stability of O2/H2 mixtures at high pressure
Article Abstract:
The mixtures of O2 and H2 are found to be stable at pressures of around 7.6 giga pascal. The measurement of phase transition of a mixture containing 33 mol% O2 at low temperature reveals a eutectic P-T line and the stability of the mixture at low density. The eutectic trough is proportional to pressure and it shifts toward the substrate having lowest melting temperature. The stability of the O2/H2 alloy may be suitable for the development of rocket fuels and for energy storage.

Code for collagen's stability deciphered
Article Abstract:
It has been established that collagen stability relies on previously unrecognized inductive effects. It is likely that these inductive effects boost collagen stability by favouring the necessary trans conformation of the hydroxyprolyl peptide bond. Flp residues make a larger contribution to collagen stability than Hyp residues do, as a fluorine atom has a greater inductive effect than a hydroxyl group.
