Frontiers of gene function
Article Abstract:
A study related to the feeding worms dsRNA produced in bacteria 'Caenorhabditis elegans' which reduce gene function, leading to the first gemone wide tests for gene function in C. elegans is presented. The study data could be used for specific functional studies on gene-by-gene bases that would provide a step in determining whether such proteins are directly responsible for the cellular or if it regulates from a distance.

Mutant mice galore
Article Abstract:
The newly created International Mouse Knockout Consortium for research on human disease model declared that all the 20,000 or so genes in the mouse genome would be systematically targeted and mutated in embryonic stem cells. The plans of the consortium to meet the expected goal and the difficulties they could possibly face are highlighted.

Comparative analyses of multi-species sequences from targeted genomic regions
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on genomic sequence. The authors discuss the generation and analysis of these sequences derived from the genomic region orthologous to a segment on human chromosome containing genes mutated in cystic fibrosis.
