Galaxy harassment and the evolution of clusters of galaxies
Article Abstract:
The morphological evolution of galaxy clusters occurs during multiple high-speed collisions between galaxies. High-resolution numerical simulations show that during these interactions small disk galaxies are converted into dwarf elliptical or spheroidal galaxies. The debris arcs left after the encounters provide fuel for quasars in the sub-luminous host galaxies. The simulations suggest that these galaxy interactions are different from galaxy mergers.

The case of the missing ellipticals
Article Abstract:
Scientist Stephen Zepf's observation of fully formed elliptical galaxies at high redshifts is an exciting discovery in cosmology. Images of the merging galaxies were attained in the Hubble Deep Field using the Hubble Space Telescope. The find supports the standard model of structure formation theory although further evidence is needed to disprove the single-burst model.

The evolution of galaxies from primeval irregulars to present-day ellipticals
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the long-term dynamical evolution of the model galaxy with an N-body simulation containing one million particles. It was found that the assembly of subcondensations and the virialization of the total system are almost completed in 3 * 10 (super 9) yr, so that the system achieves a quasi-equilibrium state.
