Genetic changes in reintroduced Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep populations
Article Abstract:
Researchers studied the genetic effects of reintroducing four groups of bighorn sheep into their common source population in Wyoming. The founder size was small and the researchers assumed that genetic diversity in the reintroduced groups would be low, due to the small numbers, and that the sheep from the four separate reintroduction populations would be genetically different. The researchers found that, although heterozygosity differed from expectations, allele frequencies were within levels predicted by genetic drift simulations. This indicates the operation of founder effect.

Low genotyping error rates and noninvasive sampling in bighorn sheep
Article Abstract:
Noninvasive genotyping methods are developed for many microsatellite loci in multiplex polymerase chain reactions (PCRs) while minimizing and quantifying genotyping error rates for fecal DNA collected from wild bighorn sheep (Ovis Canadensis). The error rates are very low for fecal samples collected noninvasively in the field.

A simple solar radiation index for wildlife habitat studies
Article Abstract:
A simple solar radiation index (SRI) device designed to enhance wildlife habitat models that combines readily available information about aspect, slope, and latitude which could be useful to wildlife managers in decision making is presented.
