German centre risks women-only job ads
Article Abstract:
The Research Centre Julich, one of the largest national research centres in Germany, believes that it is not contravening sex discrimination regulations by advertising tenure-track jobs reserved exclusively for women. It argues that women-only tenure-track positions can be interpreted as an effort to realize equality of opportunity, an approach which is permitted in law. The Max Planck Society, which has also been seeking to increase the number of women in top positions but has avoided challenging sex discrimination law, fears that a male researcher may bring a discrimination case against Julich.
