German science council clashes with anti-nuclear government
Article Abstract:
Germany's science council, the Wissenshaftsrat, is seeking a 30% increase in the budget for energy research during the next three years. It recommends that research topics, such as nuclear fission and fusion should be maintained, to maintain nuclear competence. The social Democrat and Green coalition government is hoping to phase out nuclear energy, and the Greens have criticized the call to leave all energy options open.

German Greens soften views on biotech as power edges closer
Article Abstract:
Germany's Green party has been encouraged by its potential role in a coalition government and has eased off on issues relating to biotechnology.
