Gibbons sees Gore links as asset for science

John Gibbons has become the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the US White House. He looks forward to political influence of science in the Clinton administration due to the interest in science of Al Gore. Gibbons will also have further influence due to his membership on the National Economic Council. Some spending reevaluations he predicts are for the space station and the Superconducting Super Collider.

John Gibbons, US science adviser, gets high marks for political skills
Article Abstract:
John H. Gibbons was designated by President-elect Bill Clinton to be director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Gibbons is a former nuclear physicist who has finished 13 years as head of the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA). Gibbons is thought to have rescued the OTA and turned it into a parsimonious non-partisan agency.

Gibbons: SSC should have been international
Article Abstract:
John Gibbons, the US President's science and technology adviser, thinks it is a mistake that the US Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) does not have international funding. The $10-billion project will continue despite anticipated problems. Gibbons feels that science is one of the most productive investments the government can make.
