Global and fine information coded by single neurons in the temporal visual cortex
Article Abstract:
The neuronal mechanisms underlying how complex information is processed are unclear. The activity of single neurons in the temporal cortex of macaque monkeys was recorded, while visual stimuli was presented comprising geometric shapes and monkey and human faces with different expressions. Information theory found that single neurons conveyed two different scales of facial information and global information was convey in the earliest responses.

The representation of visual salience in monkey parietal cortex
Article Abstract:
It has been established that the visual responses of lateral intraparietal area (LIP) neurons are not merely the result of the entry of a visual stimulus onto an appropriate retinal location. Instead, these responses are directly linked with the abrupt onset of that stimulus, which makes it salient. Research undertaken on macaque monkeys indicates that the whole visual world is usually only weakly represented in LIP.

Visual input evokes transient and strong shunting inhibition in visual cortical neurons
Article Abstract:
A novel technique has been developed to investigate neuronal inhibition physiology in the visual cortex. Evidence from in-vivo whole-cell voltage clamping experiments suggests that nonlinear shunting inhibition occurs early in the visualization process. Shunting inhibition induces increased membrane conductance, causing reduced excitation amplitude at nerve stimulation.
